KOHIMA: Elucidating that every facility initiated by the state government was for the benefit of the public in general, the advisor of Transport and Technical Education, Temjenmenba, has called for judicious utilisation of those facilities by inculcating a sense of belonging in order to take state forward in all aspects.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Inter-State Truck Terminus (ISTT) in Kohima, the advisor stated that the terminus would be operational and functional after putting in a lot of hard work into constructing the building, right from the drawing to searching for the requisite fund. He, therefore, reminded all, who would be using the asset, to keep in mind that it is for the people and should be maintained properly.
As many trucks carrying goods would come and halt at the terminus, he called upon the residents of model village to treat the people coming from far-flung areas to have a comfortable stay without any hindrances. The advisor also asked the department officials to use the facility wisely so that it would not only provide comfortable stay for those from other states but generate revenue for the people of Nagaland.
He also acknowledged the government of Nagaland for getting the requisite funds to establish the much felt facility especially towards easing the traffic congestion in the state capital Kohima to a great extent.
The advisor also urged the officers to seek wisdom from God to lead the department and create more assets so that the people grow from strength to strength. Besides, he urged the transport officials to come out with new innovative ideas and make the department one of the highest revenue-generating departments in the state.
He further acknowledged the contractor for the commendable workmanship and completing the building with limited funds and on time without any claim for rate enhancement.
Also speaking on the occasion, the joint secretary of Transport department, Athrila Sangtam, opined that the facility would ease the traffic problems faced by the truckers. She exuded confidence that with the proper utilisation of the building both by the management and users, the very purpose of constructing the facility would be serve its purpose.
In his introductory speech, the NST general manager, Shikaho P Yeptho, stated that the project was supervised and executed under the civil engineering wing of the department headed by an executive engineer (construction). He expressed gratitude to NEC officials and all involved for their supervision and timely release of funds for the successful completion of the project.
He added that the ISTT would be beneficial in catering all the needs of local and inter-state truck operators including parking facilities and easing congestion in the town area.
It was informed that the project was funded by NEC Shillong under the Ministry of DoNER, government of India, during the financial year 2014-15 at an amount of INR 1200.93 lakh with 90:10 state and centre share pattern and executed by Viu Angami & Sons.
ISTT has an area of land 4.00 acres with three storied building having office, restaurant, kitchen, private operator office, dormitory, in built toilet blocks, stall/ shop, security house and others with parking area (level-1 with 20 trucks and Level-2 with 40 trucks.
The programme was chaired by A Limasunep Jamir, additional general manager of NST, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Vikiho H Yepthomi, joint general manager of NST, and concluded with a prayer said by Kezhakietuo Belho, associate pastor of Khedi Baptist Kehou.
