ZSUN urges students to enroll at Polytechnic Institute
DIMAPUR — The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) has urged all eligible students to consider enrolling in the courses provided by the Polytechnic Institute in Peren district and to make the most of the opportunity to further their education and professional prospects.
The appeal was made following a recent meeting of the ZSUN officials with the principal and faculty of Polytechnic Institute located in Peren district. The primary objective of the discussion was to review the array of courses offered by the institution and to address the concerning issue of low student enrollment, stated an update from ZSUN.
It stated that since its establishment in 2021, the Polytechnic Institute has struggled with zero enrollment despite offering a diverse range of vocational and technical courses designed to benefit the youth of the district. The eligibility criteria for admission to the institute is that students must complete their 10th or 12th grade with at least 45% marks and must passed all subjects.
The union bemoaned that despite the accessible requirements, the institute has not yet attracted the necessary student numbers to commence full-fledged operations.
“For the Polytechnic Institute to function effectively and deliver on its mandate, a minimum enrollment of 15-17 students is required. This critical threshold is essential for the institute to offer its programmes comprehensively and sustain its operations. Without adequate enrollment, there is a serious risk that the institute might be relocated to another area, which would represent a significant loss to our district and its educational infrastructure,” the union pointed out.
In light of the challenges, ZSUN appealed to parents, youth and students within the district to recognise the value and opportunities presented by the Polytechnic Institute. It added that the institution represents a vital educational asset within New Peren, offering students a chance to gain skills and qualifications that are crucial for their future careers.
The union further stated that the presence of such an institution within the district is a privilege that should be embraced and supported by the community.
For any additional information or assistance regarding the enrollment process, the union has asked to contact its executive members.
