DIMAPUR — Following the successful conduct of urban local body (ULB) elections in Nagaland with 33% reservation for women, the advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, has sought a one-time special grant-in-aid from the central government.

The advisor made this appeal to the Union minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, during a review meeting held in Guwahati on July 9. He made this supplication to assist those urban local bodies in Nagaland, which has missed development opportunity for a long time due to absence of elected body, an update from Urban Development department stated.

It stated that the advisor had apprised the Union minister on the status of the various missions and programmes of the ministry implemented by the state government.

The advisor also informed that Nagaland had participated in the ‘Incubation City’ competition, which will be the first planned city in Nagaland to create economic activities and job opportunities for the young generations.

Besides, the advisor requested the Union minister to launch special scheme for the hilly northeast states to cover urban roads, landslide protection, drainages and footpaths, which are important for hilly states.

The advisor was accompanied by officers from Urban Development and Municipal Affairs departments.
