DIMAPUR — The 26th youth parliament at PM Shri JNV Mon was successfully conducted on August 26.

The event was hosted by Tanmoy Das, PGT Geography and coordinator of the youth parliament committee, which was attended by three distinguished guests namely Yoktin Konyak, former MLA of Mon town constituency; L Moala Aier, district education officer of Mon district; and Momi Kalita, principal of JNV, Longleng.

The event began with a welcome address delivered by the school principal, Tajber Singh, wherein he expressed gratitude to the guests and also encouraged the participants to give their best, stated a DIPR report.

Speaking on the occasion, Yokten Konyak, shared his thoughts on the importance of youth parliament programme and extended his best wishes to the students for their future endeavours.

It stated that the event involved active participation from students, who took on the roles of ministers, ruling party members, opposition leaders and conducted lively discussions and debates on various contemporary issues, demonstrating their awareness and critical thinking skills.

Topics such as the recent NET scam, the Kanchenjunga Express accident and the importance of cyber security were explored in depth. Additionally, the students performed a skit that introduced a new bill on an education scam, showcasing their creativity and understanding of legislative processes.

It stated that the youth actively engaged in the debate and showcased their understanding of parliamentary procedures. The programme provided a platform for students to display their leadership skills and political knowledge, fostering a deep understanding of the democratic process.

It added that the event not only provided a platform for students to voice their opinions on critical issues but also helped in nurturing their public speaking and debating skills.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Karengmili Timungpi, who expressed gratitude to the guests, participants and everyone who contributed to the success of the youth engagement initiative.

Report further stated that the youth parliament at PM Shri JNV Mon was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
