Yanthan insists on collaborations for sustainable development
DIMAPUR — Advisor of Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, has emphasised the necessity to foster partnerships and collaborations among various stakeholders in the agri-business ecosystem as well as synergy between the farmers, researchers, policymakers, financial institutions and market intermediaries for sustainable development.
Yanthan stated this during the inaugural programme of a three-day national seminar on “Sustainable emerging approach in agri-business development” at the multipurpose hall of the School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema campus on Wednesday. The seminar was organised by department of Agricultural Economics, NU: SAS, stated an update from the university.
Yanthan, who was the special guest, stressed the need to prioritise the use of environment-friendly inputs and embrace innovations such as digital agriculture and smart farming. He opined that there should be social inclusivity and empowerment of smallholder farmers, especially women and marginalised communities.
He also asserted that it is essential to foster partnerships and collaborations among various stakeholders in the agri-business ecosystem as well as synergy between the farmers, researchers, policymakers, financial institutions and market intermediaries to drive sustainable development. Besides, Yanthan stated that an enabling environment for agri-business growth and development could be promoted by providing knowledge sharing, providing access to finance and establishing market linkages.
He further called upon the participants to come out with strong recommendations for policymaking that would benefit the state.
Prof. Amod Sharma, organising secretary of the seminar, gave an overview of the seminar and reported that altogether 170 papers would be presented in both online and offline modes and there would be 8 lead papers. He added that there would be a poster presentation competition on various topics.
