WTC overall champions of DDTF taekwon-do tourney
Dimapur, Oct. 28 (EMN): Warriors Taekwon-do Club (WTC) bagged the overall champions’ trophy of the first inter-club taekwon-do tournament, organised by Dimapur District Taekwon-do Federation (DDTF) under the aegis of Nagaland Taekwon-do Federation (NTF), held on October on 24 and 25 at Lampstand Higher Secondary School, Toluvi village.
WTC won 14 gold, four silver and three bronze medals while DMI, St. Joseph Global School, won the runner-up trophy with six gold, four silver and 16 bronze medals, DDTF informed in an update.
The best discipline award went to Nagaland Police Central School.
Peiyavi Kevichusa with three gold medals and one silver was awarded the player of the tournament in the male category, while Lanthula Yim of Rich Mount School bagged the player of the tournament in the female category after winning three gold and one bronze.
A total of 140 participants from seven schools and as many clubs from Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts took part in the two-day event, DDTF stated.
The players and teams competed in four events – individual sparring, individual patterns, group patterns and special technique – for both boys and girls.
President, NTF, Sabum Otoka H Yeptho, who graced the tournament, in his exhortation highlighted on the five tenets of taekwon-do namely, courtesy, integrity, self-control, perseverance and indomitable spirit.
He also motivated student to make a career out of taekwon-do as the sport is played in the Olympics too.
Yeptho further acknowledged grand master Israel G Xuivi, the father of ITF taekwon-do in Nagaland for being inducted into the Taekwon-do Hall of Fame in the USA, the highest award any taekwon-do player can achieve. He urged students to follow the grand master’s footsteps.
