Wokha, April 28 (EMN): Expounding the role of women in conservation and promotion of cultural identity and practices, chairperson of the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland Branch (IRCSN) and advisor of Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), Abeni TCK Lotha, called upon the women to have rational thinking and explore beyond as they have always been the backbone for social uplift and protected the interest of Nagas.

Abeni stated this during the inaugural programme of a two-day silver jubilee celebration of the Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH), apex women organization of the Lotha community, held at Tiyi hall in Wokha town on April 28 on the theme “Indigenous women as knowledge keepers.”

Stating that Lothas ancestors were visionary and resilient, she called upon the congregation to share the history with the younger generations to enable them uphold their good deeds. She also called upon the Lotha women to have vision and gather more strength and ideas to serve the society as well as to speak for the welfare of Lotha women in particular and the Nagas in general.

She added that Lotha men folk never forsook or denied the rights of the women folk. She, therefore, called upon the congregation to appreciate the love and support of men folk and to keep moving forward. Later, Abeni also released a souvenir.

In his greetings, the chairman of Lotha Hoho, Mhondamo Ovung, instilled upon the congregation to foster and preserve the rich culture, traditional attire and use in an organised manner to gain recognition by every section of society.

The chairperson of Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), Khrienuo Tachü, called the Lotha women to realise their inner strength that are richly endowed within them to become efficient leaders and pathfinders in all domains of their family, social and political life.

The president of Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), Abei Meru, stated that over the years LEH was led by strong women of principle and grace that stood for peace and justice within and for the Naga women’s right. She called for unity and a better future for the younger generation while marking for inclusion of all groups for a lasting peace.

The welcome address was delivered by LEH president, Zuchobeni Ezong, while folk tunes and songs were presented by Kohima Eloe Cultural Society and Kumali Vontsso from Wokha town.

Around 400 delegates from 57 units are attending the two-day programme.
