Wokha district observes International Day of Girl Child
DIMAPUR — Joining the rest of the world, the Wokha district administration, Department of Social Welfare and District Sanklap Hub for Empowerment of Women under BBBP, organised the International Day for Girl Child 2024 at the DC conference hall in Wokha town on Friday.
In her key note address, the EAC of Wokha, Rosy Sangtam, said that the day is celebrated to raise awareness about the challenges girls face and also to promote their empowerment, a DIPR report stated.
Sangtam also said that the day is observed to support and give more opportunities to girls and increase awareness on gender inequalities faced by girls. She urged all the citizens to contribute in promoting and educating the girl child.
On the occasion, eight local champions of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) under Mission Shakti 2024 from different departments and NGOs were identified and felicitated.
The eight champions are Thungbeni Ngullie, president of Lotha Eloe Hoho; Khyochano Ezung, vice chairperson of MSME PCI-micro Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Council India; Dr. Thungdeno P Murry, medical officer at AYUSH; Subeno Odyuo, ASI (Police); S Zuchibeni Odyuo, primary teacher; B Jungio, legal aid defence counsel system; Chumreno W Kikon (sports) and Mharoli Gigi Khuvung (sports).
Winners of online photo competition held in two categories namely Father-daughter and grandfather-granddaughter were also felicitated during the programme.
Short speeches were also delivered by senior supervisor of ICDS, Erenbeni Kikon, and Thungbeni Ngullie, president of Lotha Eloe Hoho.
