Weeklong sports meet of Kuki Students’ Organisation Nagaland begins
DIMAPUR — The 7th edition of Kuki Students’ Organisation Nagaland (KSON) Sports Meet, kicked off at Khelma-Sailhem village in Peren district, on the theme “Progressing Together” on January 23.
Director of Youth Resources and Sports, Kethosituo Sekhose, was the special guest and Ghukato (Yabo) Awomi, BDO, RD Agunaqa Block, Niuland, was the guest of honour for the inaugural function of the weeklong sporting event, updated DIPR on Wednesday.
Saijang Youth and Students’ Union defeated Inbung Students and Youth Union 4-3 via a tie breaker in the inaugural football match of the sports meet.
Addressing the gathering, special guest Sekhose lauded the participating units for their zeal and enthusiasm, while stressing “rural sports” as an innovative programme to handpick raw talents from remote and neglected areas of the state and promote them through various platforms.
He also highlighted various initiatives taken up by the government to support sports enthusiasts excelling in different sporting disciplines.
Earlier in the programme, he unveiled the sports meet monolith in the presence of KSON officials, village leaders, church elders, participating units and other dignitaries.
A total of 19 units of KSON are vying for the coveted titles in various disciplines.
