DIMAPUR — Along with the rest of the country, the Child Helpline-1098 and Women Helpline181 in the state of Nagaland have been integrated with the Emergency Response Support System -112 (ERSS) on Monday.
Secretary, Department of Social Welfare and Mission Director of Mission Vatsalya, Martha R Ritse, officially inaugurated the Women and Child Development (WCD) control room in Kohima on Monday.
With the inauguration of the WCD control room, the two helplines will be integrated with the ERSS, an update stated.
“The inauguration of this centre is a cause for celebration and also, more importantly, it’s also a call to action. It is a call to work towards a future where the safety and well-being of our women and children are non-negotiable priorities,” the mission director said in her inaugural address.
Director, Department of Social Welfare and Member Secretary, State Child Protection Society (SCPS), Tosheli Zhimomi, in her keynote address, informed that earlier, Childline was being implemented by Chidline India, which is an NGO.
But now Childline has come under Mission Vatsalya and is being implemented by the Social Welfare department, as per the direction of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Zhimomi said.
She also expressed happiness over the state’s WCD control room going live along with the rest of the country.
It may be mentioned that the work for setting up WCD control rooms in the entire country has been entrusted to the Centre for Development of Advance Computing (C-DAC) thereby, automating the activities of the Child Helpline-1098 and Women Helpline-181 and integrating with ERSS.
Project Manager C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram, Ajay V, mentioned that each state has been provisioned with a dedicated WCD control room and henceforth all the calls within the state to 1098 and 181 will be received at the control room, which will be further referred to the respective districts.
Earlier, Addl. Secretary of Social Welfare department, Bodeno S Colo, in her welcome address, acknowledged the people behind the successful set-up of the WCD control room and encouraged the employees to give their best in providing quality service to the citizens of the state.
A theory and practical training session was also conducted for project coordinator, counsellor, Child Helpline supervisors and case workers of DCPU Child Helpline.
The programme was chaired by Renchumi Imti, programme manager of State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA).
