Viswema village celebrates milestone achievements
KOHIMA — Viswema village on Thursday celebrated two major milestone achievements namely the 77th anniversary of the Viswema Village Council (VVC) and the 50th anniversary of the Viswema Women Organisation (VWO) held at the multipurpose hall, Tewetso-ozwü, Sweba in Viswema village.
Minister of Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, who attended the occasion as special guest, said that Viswema, the largest village in the Southern Angami region, has a rich history of producing prominent leaders in politics, public service, NGOs, entrepreneurs and sportspersons. She encouraged the younger generation to embrace and continue the legacy of their elders, building a resilient future for the community.
Recognising the contributions of the village’s women, Kruse highlighted the impact of women’s self-help groups (SHG) in strengthening the community.
Noting that the village is situated in a strategic location along the National Highway and endowed with fertile soil and ample water resources, she urged villagers to pursue farming with dedication to unlock its full potential.
Kruse also stressed on the importance of peace and unity as those values would drive towards progress in the community.
The advisor of Prisons, Printing and Stationery, Kropol Vitsu, spoke on the indispensable role of women in community development, emphasising how their empowerment enriches families and society. He encouraged the women to instill spiritual values in their children, fostering a society marked by character and compassion.
The MLA and chairman of Kohima DPDB, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso, also commended the village’s progress in empowering women. He encouraged the Viswema community to embrace in-laws from different villages and communities with love and kindness.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Viswema Village Council (VVC), Tebül Neikha, has expressed pride in the achievements of Viswema’s women, underlining the importance of collaboration between men and women in creating a harmonious society.
On the occasion, Kruse unfurled the VWO flag and unveiled a jubilee plaque, which was blessed by Rev. Dr. Fr. Godfrey Vilasal Thapo.
