DIMAPUR — Veterinary College, Jalukie, conducted a one-day awareness programme on “Empowering women and youth through poultry farming” on Friday.

The programme was organised the project “Evaluation of CARI improved germplasm in NEH region and its popularisation” funded by ICAR-CARI, Izatnagar, Bareilly, UP, under the aegis of ICAR-NEH scheme.

An update from the college stated that a total of 25 beneficiaries from Peren district attended the programme.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. I Shakuntala, dean of the college, who encouraged the beneficiaries for upscaling of backyard poultry into commercial production through the technical knowhow and technology inputs received under the project.

On the occasion, Dr. A Palanisammi, professor and head of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, and Dr. SK Borthakur, professor and head of Livestock Farm Complex, encouraged the future poultry entrepreneurs to work towards attaining economic uplift through poultry farming.

Dr. Imtiwati, the principal investigator of the project, delivered the welcome address and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Babesh Mili, co-principal investigator.

Dr. Niethono Kuotsu conducted a technical session on importance of poultry health management.
