Various churches organise camps for children

Kohima — Various churches in Kohima conducted summer camps and vocational Bible school (VBS) for students during their vacation.

St. Francis de Sales (SFS) parish in Kohima town organised ‘Children’s summer camp 2023’ from June 30 to July 2 at St. John School in Merhulietsa on the theme “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord” (Psalm 98:4).

During one of the sessions at the camp, Catechist Petekhriezo Francis Kiewhuo delivered a poignant reminder of why Catholics attend church and receive baptism during infancy. He also elucidated on the significance behind naming themselves after saints and holy men and women mentioned in the Bible.

In addition, Kiewhuo expounded upon the meaning and origin of the sign of the Cross, guiding the children through its purpose and how it is performed. The catechist also took the opportunity to emphasise on the importance of the Holy Eucharist, wherein Catholics partake in the body and blood of Christ.

Kiewhuo further reminded the children of the fundamental beliefs held by Catholics particularly on the unwavering faith in the word of God, the apostolic tradition, and the authoritative guidance of the Magisterium of the church and the Magisterium of the church.

The camp director, Neikhrietuo Albert, informed Eastern Mirror that about 400 children attended the three-day summer camp.

Meanwhile, the children ministry of Central Christian Revival Church (CCRC) also organised its vacation bible school (VBS) at the church premises in D Block from June 28 to July 2 on the theme “Stellar: shine Jesus’ light.”

Ruokuobeinuo Mepfhuo, Sunday school superintendent of CCRC, informed that about 120 participants attended the camp.

Similarly, a four-day VBS was also organised by the Sangtam Baptist Church on the theme “Heroes of faith.”

Zisela Rudithonger, a member of the praise and worship team, informed that about 300 children took part in the event which was held from June 28 to July 1.

In a similar programme, around 51 children attended a four-day second ‘Altar servers camp’ jointly organised by Catholic Juniors’ Association, Christ The King Church in Kohima village and St. Stephen’s Church Rüsoma on the theme “Serve the Lord in sincerity and truth” (Joshua 24:14).
