DIMAPUR — The two-day aainball coach training, organised by Nagaland Aainball Association (NABA), concluded on Tuesday at the State Environment and Forestry Training Institute, Signal Angami, Dimapur.

A total of 38 trainees (14 coach trainees and 24 aainball trainees) participated in the first-ever training camp in the state. Two master trainers, namely Dipankar Kalita, a national player, and Pragyan Sarma, captain of the Assam team, trained the participants.

During the closing programme, Kuzholuzo Azo Neinu, leader of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and president of NABA, mentioned that the game is still new to the north-eastern states and suggested that it would be wise to introduce the game in colleges and schools.

He informed that the game originated in Morocco in 2006 and since then, its popularity has grown. He also stated that they will meet with NABA executives to discuss ways to promote the game in the state and take it to the next level.

Sandeep M Tamgadge, additional director general of police (law and order) and chief advisor of NABA, acknowledged the trainers for introducing aainball in the state. He expressed confidence that Nagaland will have a bright future in the game.

T Aochuba, director of Intangki National Park and NABA advisor, said on the occasion that it will take a lot of effort and hard work to gain momentum for the game and urged them to work hard to establish it as an important game in the state.

Master trainer Dipankar Kalita enlightened the participants on the history and objectives of aainball and recommended promoting the game across the state, as it is still unknown to many.
