Twitter Blue officially launched in more countries including India
Elon Musk’s social media platform, Twitter, has announced significant changes to the character length of tweets and has expanded its paid subscription service called “Twitter Blue” to more countries including India.
The platform previously had a character limit of only 140 characters per tweet. It has now been expanded to 280 characters for free users and up to 4,000 characters for Twitter Blue subscribers, shifting its focus away from its iconic short-form messaging feature.
The platform announced the new change in a long-form tweet stating, “Need more than 280 characters to express yourself? we know that lots of you do… and while we love a good thread, sometimes you just want to Tweet everything all at once. we get that. so we’re introducing longer Tweets! you’re gonna want to check this out. tap this. Starting today, if you’re subscribed to Twitter Blue in the US you can create longer Tweets.”

we know that lots of you do… and while we love a good thread, sometimes you just want to Tweet everything all at once. we get that.

“Most standard functions of Tweeting still apply, whether you want to post a picture, use a hashtag, or create a poll. but now you can type all the way up to 4,000 characters. for now, longer Tweets on web can’t be saved as drafts or scheduled to send later. but don’t worry, Twitter is still Twitter. we know longer Tweets could mean a lot of scrolling, so they’ll be capped at 280 characters on your timeline and you’ll see a “Show more” prompt to click and read the whole Tweet,” it added.
As stated above, Twitter Blue subscribers will now be able to enjoy a range of premium features, including the ability to edit tweets, custom app icons, improved navigation, folders, and a Reader feature that streamlines thread reading.
Despite the longer tweet limit, most standard Twitter functions remain, including the ability to post pictures, use hashtags, and create polls.
However, for now, web users won’t be able to save longer tweets as drafts or schedule them for later.
Twitter acknowledges the potential for excessive scrolling and has capped longer tweets at 280 characters on users’ timelines, with a “Show More” promptly available to view the full tweet.
Whether you’re a seasoned Twitter user or just starting, Twitter Blue now offers a range of premium features that can enhance your social media experience. Of course, the all-important Blue checkmark is the icing on the cake.
