DIMAPUR — A three-day event of the third edition of Tokhü Emong open badminton championship 2023 culminated on Thursday with Thungdemo Kyong, chief of Team Metamorphosis, as the special guest.

In the men’s single final, Thungbemo defeated Benri Humtsoe with a score of 24-22 and 21-19, while in the men’s doubles final Thungbemo and Nchumbemo prevailed over Benri and Shancho with a score of 21-17, 13-21 and 21-17 to emerge champions.

In the veteran’s double final, Robert and Nongothung defeated Cyrus James and Yanbemo with a score of 21-17 and 21-16.

Speaking at the closing function, Kyong expressed gratitude to WDBA officials for providing a platform for the badminton lovers in the district. He added that those who are interested in sports must put more efforts and show to the world.

He further said, “sports is just one wonderful activity which will not just enable us to attain certain stage in life but also help us to discipline ourselves and keep us physically fit.”

The champions walked away with cash prizes and a running trophy sponsored by Myingthungo Ababe Ezung, OSD of Transport department, and Janthungo Kikon, chairman of Tsungiki village council.

A total of 27 entries consisting seniors and veterans participated in the tournament held at GHSS indoor badminton stadium in Wokha town.
