Tobacco-free youth campaign launched in Jalukie town
DIMAPUR — The District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), Peren, in collaboration with Jalukie Police Station, District Enforcement Force and United Riders’ Motorcycle Club, launched the ‘Tobacco-free youth campaign 2.0,’ an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in Jalukie town on September 24.
The campaign aims to build a healthier, tobacco-free future among the youth through enhanced awareness, law enforcement and community engagement.
Speaking at the event, the medical superintendent of District Hospital, Peren, Dr. Niriethono Zetsovi, described tobacco as the leading cause of cancer and stated that ‘we cannot live in denial and ignorance any longer.
Attributing tobacco-use to most cases of oral cancer today, she stated that it is time to wake up and start taking responsibility of one’s health.
In a short speech, the district nodal officer, Dr. Aoyanger, thanked all the participants and the parties with whom NTCP Peren had thus far work with. He also extended his gratitude to the United Riders Motorcycle Club, Peren, and expressed hope that the campaign by bikers group would have great influence on the youth.
A social worker at NTCP, Peren, Hoineichin, highlighted the strategies of the campaign.
Later, the officer in-charge of Jalukie Police Station, Disa Haikube, flagged off the bike rally through the town centre and public areas to create awareness on tobacco hazards.
