DIMAPUR — A five-day block level in-service government teachers training on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) for Educational Block Resource Centre (EBRC) Kushiabill, under Samagra Shiksha, got underway at Diphupar Village Council hall, Chümoukedima, on Tuesday.

The co-ordinator of EBRC Kushiabill, Keviseu Zutso, informed that the training is divided into two phases, from March 12 to the 16th and March 18 to the 22nd.

It may be mentioned that there are 78 schools under Kushiabill block, out of which 72 schools are under FLN.

Zutso said that in the first phase, 115 pre-primary and primary teachers from 36 schools under Kushiabill block will be trained and in the second phase, 108 teachers from another 36 government schools under Kushiabill will be trained.

Addressing the inaugural programme, deputy director of School Education department, Erali Swu said that the training at the block level is a replicate of the recently concluded ECCE and FLN district master-trainers training programme which was held from February 27 to March 2.

Swu said that the first phase of the block will be conducted simultaneously in three districts, namely Dimapur, Wokha and Zunheboto.

She also informed that Nagaland is the first state in the country to come out with a comprehensive and contextual ECCE curriculum, for which she expressed gratitude to the SCERT.

She said that the National Education Mission or Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan considers the preparedness of learners for schooling as a critical factor in ensuring effective out comes for the FLN project, and therefore the ECCE incorporates children from the age of three to six years and the NEP 2020 redesigned the school structure from 10+2 to the new 5+3+3+4 structure.

The official emphasised that quality pre-school education not only increases the progress and achievement of children in primary schools but it also lays the foundation for future growth, learning and development, as well as develop positive attitude and the desire to learn.

She further urged the teachers to participate in the training with sincerity, guided by the thought that the knowledge they take and disseminate will ultimately be vital in shaping many young lives.

The district education officer of Dimapur, Hokheto Yeptho, encouraged the teachers to love their profession and be faithful to their job as they have a responsibility to the children.

“Be sincere and update yourself with new method and innovation and confident enough to teach the students,” he said while adding that it is important for teachers to know that they are dealing with the future of the children.

Chairman of Diphupar Village Council, Ghuzui Shohe, appealed to the teachers to be sincere in their services and help the students. He said that there are many teachers who keep proxy teachers who are not qualified to teach the students when they are transferred to some rural villages. He appealed to the teachers not to indulge in such practice.
