DIMAPUR — The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has appealed to the government to upgrade the Health and Wellness Centre in Seyochung village to a Primary Health Centre (PHC).

In a letter to the chief medical officer (CMO) of Kiphire, the union claimed that it has observed several challenges impacting the healthcare services provided to the community during its visit to the Health and Wellness Centre on September 30 last.

The union stated that the centre currently has only one community health officer (CHO) and one auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM), which is insufficient to handle the growing healthcare needs of Seyochung village. Additionally, the CHO has highlighted the shortage of essential medical instruments and first aid kits.

Besides, it stated that the supplies provided by the CMO are inadequate to meet the daily requirements of the centre.

The union pointed out that Seyochung village has the highest population under Seyochung ADC headquarters, exceeding even Seyochung town in terms of population. Despite this, it stated that the village continues to receive minimal medical support.

In this regard, the union has urged the CMO to consider upgrading the Health and Wellness Centre to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) to enhance healthcare delivery and support the increasing population. It further expressed hope that the officer would look into the matter at the earliest and take necessary action to improve the healthcare infrastructure for the benefit of the villagers.
