Sumis commit to work for advancement of Naga society

DIMAPUR — Various Sumi organisations have committed to work cohesively for the advancement of Naga society on the principles of unity, respect, and inclusive dialogue. In this regards, it urged all Sümi leaders to actively pursue those ideals in their respective spheres.

The commitment was made during a consultative meeting of Sümi Hoho (SH) along with the Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) and all its frontal organisations including Sümi elders, church leaders and senior Sümi leaders from the Naga national political groups in Kuhuboto town on Friday.

The point of discussion was centred around fostering unity and strengthening bonds among the Sümi leadership, with the overarching goal of contributing positively to the wider Naga community, stated an update from Sumi Hoho.

During the meeting, the leaders unanimously emphasised that the Sümi leadership must embody unity, both in spirit and in action. The commitment called for solidarity to be rooted in the belief that only through collective effort and shared vision the broader aspirations of the Naga people could be fully realised.

The leaders also expressed that maintaining harmonious and mutually respectful relationships with all Naga tribes is essential for peace, progress and lasting cohesion within the region.

The Sümi Hoho further stressed that it is imperative for the leaders of the Sümi Naga national political groups to foster stronger and more interactive relationships with the general public.

“Such engagement is vital for bridging gaps, ensuring transparency and nurturing trust between leaders and the communities they represent,” the statement from Sumi read.

The body underscored that listening to the voices and concerns of the people is a cornerstone of effective leadership and crucial for addressing challenges faced by the community.

It further stated that the consultative meeting marked a significant step forward in reinforcing the collective resolve of the Sümi leadership to collaborate effectively for the common good with the spirit of fostering united and resilient Naga society.
