DIMAPUR — Commemorating the World Environment Day, students of Kohima College have pledged not to use single-use plastic.
The pledge to this effect was taken during a programme jointly organised by Friends of Nature and department of Environmental Science at the college premises on June 3 on the theme “Solution to plastic pollution.”
An update from the college stated that the programme began with a welcome address delivered by Viserenuo Thenunuo, wherein she presented a token of appreciation to the resource person, Rajkumar M, DFO of Kohima.
It stated that Rajkumar, in his speech, posed 3 questions which formed the central theme of his message. The questions included “Can we avoid plastic? Can we eradicate plastic? Can we segregate waste?”
Stating that plastic is unavoidable and not be eradicated, Rajkumar was of the opinion that it was more practicable to opt for “Reduction, Reuse and Recycle.” His final advice to the youth was to ‘be aware’ and ‘educate at least 10 other people’ to achieve the target.
