‘Stop Diarrhoea Campaign’ launched in Nagaland

DIMAPUR — Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland launched the ‘Stop Diarrhoea Campaign’ on Monday, themed ‘Stop diarrhoea through hygiene and ORS’.

The campaign was launched simultaneously throughout the districts, a DIPR report stated.

Tuensang: Tuensang district launched the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign at the conference hall of the District Hospital Tuensang, with ADC Tuensang, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, as the guest of honour.

In his address, the ADC urged the health workers, mainly the ASHA and Anganwadi workers, to work with dedication to create awareness on the importance of handwashing and providing clean drinking water to children, especially during the monsoon.

Tungoe further urged the health workers to create awareness and also distribute ORS and zinc tablets to every child in rural areas.

Earlier, the keynote address was delivered by Dr. Imti Jungshi Aier, DPO (RCH/UIP), Tuensang.

Noklak: The Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, Arikumba, launched the campaign at the DC conference hall. In his address, the DC said that the campaign is a holistic one and therefore requested all the stakeholders to initiate and participate in the successful conduct of the campaign.

Arikumba also said that diarrhoea is a disease that is preventable and curable if proper hygiene and other preventive measures are taken.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Noklak, Dr. Victor NC, announced that during the district task force meeting held on June 29, the members discussed setting up a dedicated corner that will be stocked with ORS and zinc tablets to be provided to patients for free in all health units.

Wokha: Speaking at the launching programme held at the conference hall of the chief medical officer, ADC Wokha, K Furhesie Nyuwi appreciated the department for extending the campaign from two weeks to two months, involving extensive information, education and communication (IEC) through different platforms and collaborating across multiple sectors.

He emphasised the importance of sensitising health workers along with enhancing capacity building efforts to strengthen diarrhoea management efforts in the district.

Dr. Zuben Kikon, CMO Wokha, delivered the welcome note, while Dr. Thungchanbeni Patton delivered the key note address.

Kohima: Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Rhosietho Nguori, launched the campaign in Kohima. He reminded all the allied departments to coordinate and to carry out all activities on time.

Deputy CMO Dr. Imchatoshi, in his welcome address, said that the prevalence of diarrhoea is still very high in places like Dimapur and Kohima. He said that the focus should be on sanitation, personal hygiene and community hygiene.

Dr. Khrievilhou, DPO (RCH/UIP), informed that diarrhoea is still high in India among children below five years old. He also said that the combination of ORS and zinc tablets has decreased the deaths to 50.6% and therefore, the availability of ORS and zinc tablets is very important.

Longleng:  DC Longleng, Dharam Raj, officially launched the campaign at CMO conference hall. In his address, the DC conveyed his appreciation for the preparedness level of the district, stated a press release from the CMO office, Longleng.

Raj also emphasised the importance of sensitising the general public, along with enhancing capacity building efforts, to strengthen diarrhoea management efforts within the district.

Dr. Tiasunep, CMO Longleng, gave a briefing on diarrhoea, preventive measures and hygiene in his welcome address. Dr. S Imnameren Phom, DPO RCH/UIP, gave a PPT presentation on how to prevent diarrhoea through hygiene and ORS in his keynote address.

Zunheboto: The launching programme of the campaign was held at the conference hall of District Hospital Zunheboto, with Mopling Phom, EAC Zunheboto Sadar, as the special guest.

The EAC said that since the government has put trust in the public through various initiatives to stop diarrhoea, it is the duty of all concerned citizens to support and co-operate with the medical department to make the campaign a success.

Dr. Heto Swu, DPO (RCH/UIP), gave an overview of the programme and highlighted the theme of the campaign.

A demonstration of homemade ORS was shown by Toli, EAC Sadar, using the standard composition of WHO.

Mon: District Health Society, Mon launched the ‘Stop Diarrhoea Campaign’ at District Hospital with Nyamok Konyak, EAC of Mon HQ, as the special guest.

In her address, Nyamok urged all medical personnel to recommit themselves to the programme and work with assiduity, stating that such campaigns will help save lives.

CMO Dr. Imnapokim gave an overview of the campaign’s objectives as well as a brief rundown of the two-month activities to be implemented in the district. A PowerPoint presentation on diarrhoea and its treatment was presented by paediatrician Dr. Chimang Paul of DH Mon.

ASHA worker from Leangha village, Lihnon, gave a demonstration on how to make homemade ORS.

After the official launch event, Dr. Wungyong chaired a coordination meeting with the district programme management unit and the other affiliated departments.
