DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) organised a seminar and interaction programme on Thursday at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.

The participants were Class 11 Science students studying in higher secondary schools under Dimapur district with a science stream, stated a press release issued by NBSE chairperson Asano Sekhose.

It was noted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 envisions an education system centred on inquiry-based, discovery-based, and activity-based learning approaches. Keeping this perspective in mind and aiming to encourage science education and promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in the state, the seminar was organised.

Prof. Shalabh, department of Statistics and dean of Academic Affairs, IIT Kanpur, was the resource person. In the first session, 611 students from seven schools participated, and in the afternoon, 351 students from six schools joined the seminar.

The resource person focused on empowering young minds to shape their future. He highlighted the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in today’s fast-paced world of challenges. He also spoke about the role of IITs across the country in developing scientific temper among students.

He urged the students to develop a spirit of inquiry and experimentation, as well as to understand their own abilities and capabilities. He emphasised that today’s world cannot progress without scientific knowledge and a scientific temperament.
