State Table Tennis c’ship: Mon, Kohima emerge team champions
MOKOKCHUNG — Mon emerged champions and Kohima runner-up in the men’s category of the 26th Nagaland Inter-District and State Table Tennis Championship 2023, which concluded at Multi Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on Oct. 26.
In the women’s category, Kohima took first position followed by Niuland in second place. Niuland was declared as the best discipline team while the MDTTA also awarded the youngest player of the tournament.
Hosted by the Mokokchung District Table Tennis Association (MDTTA) under the aegis of the Nagaland Table Tennis Association (NTTA), Commandant of the 12 Assam Rifles Col. Rahul Gurung was the patron of the valedictory programme.
Gurung, in his address, expressed hope that the players would find their way into the national team, after witnessing the performance of the players in the tournament.
He urged the players to leaving a significant mark, like Dr. T Ao, in the history of sports.
Saying that winning and losing are part of the game, he advised the players against complacency and encouraged them to focus on becoming a part of the national team.
The army officer also stressed that willpower, dedication and hard work are some of the best traits of a sportsperson.
Gurung further noted that sports have gained central stage in the country and India is increasing its medal tally in the international level.
He attributed this success to the collective efforts of all sports associations throughout the country.
The AR commandant also acknowledged the NTTA and MDTTA for organising such a tournament in the district, with the aim of promoting the sport.
The valedictory programme concluded with prize and certificate distribution to the winning teams and participants.
