DIMAPUR — A state-level quiz competition was held on Friday at ATI Imagine Hall in Kohima with the Home Commissioner and Chief Electoral Officer, VYasan R, as the special guest.

Speaking at the programme, Vyasan said parliamentary quiz is important for students because it helps to understand the parliamentary procedure and the role of parliament in society.

“A parliament is a crucial institution that plays a vital role in democratic governance and serves as the voice of the people, representing their interests and concerns. Without a parliament, a country would lack a forum for open debates, lawmaking and executive oversight, which are essential for a functional democracy,” a DIPR report stated quoting Vyasan.

The Home Commissioner encouraged the students to explore more on parliamentary working procedure to equip and gain better understanding on how parliament functions. He stated that it would help students develop their leadership skills and learn to respect others’ views and understand the importance of following rules. Besides, he stated that it would provide an opportunity for students to be involved in school governance and decision-making.

He advised them to have self confidence and to be hard working on whatever work they do in order to strive in this competitive world, where only the best would survive.

Meanwhile, the report stated that Phek district won the first position of the state-level parliamentary quiz competition, followed by Peren district in second position, Diampur district in third position and Tseminyu district in the fourth position.

The programme was chaired by associate professor of Kohima College, Dr. Eunice Alinger, while the welcome address was delivered by the coordinator associate professor of Kohima College, Dr. Evothung Ezung and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Under Secretary of Parliamentary Affairs Department, Anungla Aier.
