Search underway for drowned youth in Dimapur

DIMAPUR — A 20-year-old man tragically drowned in the Dhansari River near Thaheku village on Thursday afternoon. The victim, identified as Akash Mandal, was reportedly bathing with three friends when the incident occurred.

Operation commander of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), ASI Angukato K Yeptho said a distress call was received at approximately 2 pm and arrived at the scene around 2:50 pm. He estimated that the drowning occurred around 1:30 pm.

Despite an extensive search effort that continued until 5:30 pm, the SDRF team was unable to locate Mandal’s body. The search operation is set to resume on Friday morning, he said.

Further, Yeptho advised the public to exercise extreme caution around rivers, especially during the monsoon season when currents are strong and unpredictable.
