Road safety week begins in Karbi Anglong

Diphu, Jan. 11 (EMN): As part of the nationwide ongoing Road Safety Week which began on Wednesday, the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), Karbi Anglong organised an awareness programme on road safety at Diphu public bus stand on Wednesday.

In Karbi Anglong, the road safety week is being observed under ‘Swachhata Pakhwade’ with theme ‘Let’s all work together to build an accident-free Assam’. 

Participating in the programme, drivers of three-wheelers and four-wheelers took part in the programme.  

Informing the media persons, the DTO Bikram Aditiya Gogoi said that as per the directive of the central and state government, a weeklong road safety week will be organised in Karbi Anglong from Jan. 11 till the 17th.

On the occasion, a free eye check-up was also conducted on drivers of three and four-wheelers, and those needing spectacles were provided free of cost.

The DTO also informed that those drivers required for eye operation will be provided freely.

As part of the safety week, leaflets will also be distributed on safe driving and obeying traffic rules to avoid accidents, Bike rally at Bokajan, Howraghat. While, street plays will also be performed by renowned actor Rajib Kro and several social organisations to be involved to bring out safe driving among the general public.

Gogoi also informed that inorder to avoid road accidents on National Highway-39 between Sarihajan to Balipathar, a necessary road signboard will also be put up while trimming of tree branches on both the roadside will be done.

Awareness programme along the four-lane road construction from Lahorijan to Parakhowa National Highways Infrastructural Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) were also conducted at Phuloni (toll gate) among truck drivers.

On the concluding day (Jan. 17), a half marathon will be organised from Mahandijua to Diphu where cash awards amounting to INR 10,000, INR 5000 and INR 3000 will be given away to first three winners and INR 2000 to fourth and fifth winners respectively. The awareness program was attended by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhumita Bhagwati, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sanjib Kumar Saikia, and several other dignitaries.
