RNPO executive meet addresses political, organisational concerns

Dimapur — The Rongmei Naga People's Organisation (RNPO) at its central executive meeting held at Chungaizaeng, Burma Camp, on Tuesday, discussed political and organisational concerns directly impacting the RNPO and its constituents.

Presided over by RNPO Speaker Kadongai Panmei, the meeting was attended by members hailing from the Manipur, Assam, and Nagaland units, along with representatives from organisations including the Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation, Rongmei Luh Phuam and Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation, an update stated.

The RNPO president Chingkhiulung Gonmei and general secretary Achong Gangmei also attended the meeting.

The meeting also discussed and decided to hold the upcoming two-day general assembly of the RNPO at Longmai in Tamenglong district, Manipur. The assembly will commence on August 8, 2023.

Further, a proposal was put forth during the meeting to appoint Ningkhuon Gonmei from Nagaland as the chief commissioner of the RNPO election commission, with one representative each from Manipur and Assam.

Acknowledging the conclusion of the term of the constitution amendment committee, the central executive formed a fresh committee to carry on its works. Mathew Rongmei was chosen as the committee's chairman, with Meijian Gonmei and Panti Kamei representing Nagaland, alongside two members from Manipur and one from Assam.

Highlighting on the significance of transparency and accountability, the meeting stressed on submission of performance and audit reports from all state units and frontal organisations during the general assembly.

To ensure widespread dissemination of this information, the responsibility was entrusted to the RNPO general secretary. Moreover, discussions revolved around the pressing need to establish an RNPO office in Tamenglong.

A moment of silence was also observed in honor of late Amu Kamei, the former president of RNPO, for his invaluable contributions.

The central executive meeting concluded with a commitment to address the organisation's political and organisational challenges, and to strive for the betterment of the Rongmei Naga community as a whole.
