Imphal, Oct. 1 (EMN): The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal will have a separate power supply substation within the current month to meet the increasing power demands.

This was disclosed by Prof. A Santa, Director of RIMS, on the sidelines of inaugurating a 50-bedded COVID care/Infectious Diseases Centre along with PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) oxygen generator and refilling station, and COVID care private ward at its campus.

“RIMS consumes a huge power supply for its functioning and we’ve dedicated a 3 MW power supply line from the state government. But we’ve crossed the consumption level,” Prof. Santa said.

“The government suggested setting up a separate substation. So we’re going to have a separate sub-station within this month. A 33kV high tension line directly from Yurembam is coming up. This sub-station will be bigger than the power consumed in both Thangmeiband and Uripok assembly constituencies.”

During the day’s function, a hospital record department and a store house for condemned materials were also inaugurated by the director. Medical Superintendent Prof. Nepram Sanjib Singh and Prof. Brogen Singh Akoijam were present at the inaugural function.

Earlier, addressing a gathering inside the new COVID care centre, Prof. A Santa said that the new separate centre will help a lot in terms of providing the services to the patients besides enhancing the health workers.

“The opening of such a COVID care block is very useful for us and the public because when the COVID patients were admitted to the main hospital, the main hospital collapsed because there are so many protocols,” he said.

Earlier, the COVID patients occupied half of the surgery ward in the main hospital and it created many problems. The new COVID block is away from the main hospital.
