RIMS now has a dental college; opens 5 world class modular operation theatres

Imphal, Aug. 1 (EMN): Five world class new modular operation theatres were inaugurated apart from opening a Dental College block at its new campus in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Monday.
Manipur Governor La Ganesan accompanied by the RIMS Director Professor A Santa Singh and Medical Superintendent Dr Sanjib Nepram were present during the inauguration function.
Addressing the inaugural function, the governor said RIMS has become the pride of Northeast and it is the only medical college from the entire region to be amongst the top 50 medical institutions of India in the last four years continuously in NRF ranking released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Stating that dental education occupies a place of pride in the field of medical studies where the basic aim of dental colleges is to provide health-oriented courses that emphasise the prevention of oral disease, he said dentistry offers a satisfying, rewarding and lucrative career and that it has become the subject of choice for aspiring professionals of tomorrow.
Ganesan stated that in the past decade many new dental colleges have been established and still there is immense scope for dental surgeons in view of the high incidence of dental problems. There is one dentist with a population of approximately 26,000 in the urban areas, and one with a population of 3 lakh in rural areas. India has more than 250 dental institutions, producing over 15,000 to 20,000 BDS graduates every year.
He also exuded confidence that the Dental College in RIMS should also work and provide quality treatment to the patients.
The governor appealed to the gathering particularly the youngsters to work as responsible citizens for a better future of the nation. He also asked them to inculcate a sense of patriotism in all aspects of life.
In his speech, RIMS Director Prof. Singh said that the institute has introduced many game changer initiatives including introduction of one year compulsory senior residents after MD/MS in RIMS to improve manpower, etc.
With the increase of the institute’s budget from INR 190 crore to INR 500 crore, the institute can now take up massive infrastructure development, he added.
Governor Ganesan also interacted with faculty members and representatives of non-teaching staff of RIMS and heard issues faced by them and assured them to look after their issues.
