Ranji Trophy: Nagaland defeats Arunachal by an inning and 290 runs

DIMAPUR — Nagaland secured a resounding victory against Arunachal Pradesh in their first match in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 played at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima. Nagaland won by an innings and 290 runs.

Nagaland won the toss and chose to bat first, stated an update. They declared their innings at 509/5.

In response, Arunachal Pradesh was bowled out for 75 in their first inning. Following on, they managed only 144 in their second inning.

Jonathan Rongsen led Nagaland’s batting charge with a stellar 225 runs off 240 balls. This knock, his personal best in first-class cricket, coupled with three wickets in the match, earned him the player of the match award.

Dega Nischal supported well with 149 runs off 231 balls. Hem Bahadur Chetri remained unbeaten at 58.

In the first inning, for Arunachal Pradesh, Nabam Dol top-scored with 19 runs off 70 balls.

Jagadeesha Suchith was the standout bowler for Nagaland. He took 5 wickets for 34 runs in the first inning and 4 for 34 in the second. Imliwati Lemtur claimed 3 wickets for 12 runs in the first inning. Debutant Dib Borah impressed with 4 wickets in the second inning.

Rongsen, with the double century, further solidifies his record as the only Naga player to achieve two double hundreds in first-class cricket.

Nagaland’s next match is scheduled against Manipur on October 18 at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima.
