Dimapur, Feb. 19 (EMN): Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) has expressed shocked to learn about the unfortunate incident on February 16 at Meluri Police Station, wherein one Türhüli Thupitor, a cadre of GPRN/NSCN, was allegedly found hanging in his cell.
Stating that the negligence of the police personnel on duty during the time of the incident was totally unprecedented, the union has vehemently condemned the custodial death.
While acknowledging the administration for the prompt action in setting up of judicial enquiry commission to probe the incident, the union appealed to the commission to expedite the investigation without any fear or favour and booked all individuals involved in the case and deliver befitting justice to the bereaved families.
It lamented the adamant attitude of the security forces despite numerous appeals made by Pochury civil society organisations to refrain from frequent raids in the town to avoid creating fear psychosis and insecurities among the public. It stated that the intention of the forces to vitiate the peaceful environment on the pretext of maintaining law and order and taking advantage of the draconian law was totally absurd and unacceptable.
Stating that Pochury people are peace loving citizens, the union reminded the security forces that if they cannot respect the sentiments and cooperate with the people, they have to sever ties indefinitely to avoid misunderstanding and confrontations in the near future.
The union further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
