Preparations underway for Manipur Sangai Festival

Imphal, Oct. 24 (EMN): Hectic preparations are on for the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival — an annual tourism extravaganza promoting rich cultural and traditional activities of the northeastern state.
Kolkata -the city of joy also hosted a curtain raiser event at its Salt Lake City Centre on Sunday to share the uniqueness of Manipur beyond her borders besides unveiling and showcasing the various aspects of the state focusing on the varied attractions of the Manipur Sangai Festival 2022, which is scheduled to be held from November 21 to 30 this year.
Many potential travellers participated in the event wherein a buyer-seller meet was also organised. Tour operators from Manipur introduced the festival to the buyers during the event.
The Manipur Sangai festival also is an attempt to spread awareness about this rare endangered deer endemic to Manipur. The festival also promises to showcase some of the best indigenous handlooms and handicraft products.
In Manipur, Churachandpur district organising committee of the Sangai festival along with Singhat MLA Chinlunthang also visited Behiang, a border village to oversee preparations for the upcoming Festival.
Apart from inspecting the proposed site with layout plans for physical construction of stage, stalls and other facilities, the team which included officials of various departments discussed tourist attraction activities such as opening of eateries at the border area on Sunday.
The ongoing amphitheatre construction and entertainment space at the proposed Manipur Southern Cultural Centre was also inspected on Monday.
The curtain raiser event for this year’s festival will be held at Behiang village on November 22, which will be followed by events at Khuga from November 24 to the 26th.
On October 17, a team of six ambassadors/high commissioners of India agreed to promote the Manipur Sangai Festival using their personal good relations with embassies of foreign countries in India for their participation.
Recently, chief minister Biren Singh had inspected the ongoing construction work at the Moirang Khunou area in Bishnupur district where Sangai Ethnic Park is being constructed to host the upcoming Sangai Festival as the main venue. Huts representing different tribal groups of the state would be set up at the ethnic park.
