Power dept. to effect disconnection against defaulting offices

Dimapur, Jan. 8 (EMN): The state level special team of Power department has decided to issue 15 days notice for disconnection of power supply to all defaulting government offices and departments in Dimapur and Chümoukedima for non-payment of electricity bill arrears.

The decision to this effect was taken during its first meeting for the year 2022 on January 8 held in the office of SLDC, Nagarjan, with the participation of representatives from the district administration, police and all the officers of Power department in Dimapur and Chümoukedima, a press release issued by DIPR stated.

It stated that all officers of Dimapur and Chümoukedima are asked to work out a detailed action plan on a daily basis for effecting disconnection activities of power supply to all defaulting and non-paying electricity consumers. In this regard, the executive engineers of Dimapur and Chümoukedima are asked to constantly monitor and submit weekly reports to the special revenue team.

During the meeting, representatives from the district administration were requested to put an agenda for discussion on the high revenue arrears of all government departments in the next DPDB meeting of Dimapur. It further decided to complete installation and commissioning of pre-paid meters allocated for Dimapur within March 31 next.

In her opening remark, the team leader Sarah Jamir thanked the district administration and police department for their cooperation and support and also the citizens of Dimapur and Chümoukedima without whose support its exercise would be futile. She also thanked the colony, ward and village leaders, GBs, and youth for their active support and participation in checking and controlling power theft.

She was optimistic that with the support of like-minded forward public leaders and elders, power theft, hooking and meter bypassing would soon be a thing of the past where consumers could enjoy uninterrupted power supply without extra load on the transformer resulting in overloading and failure of the transformer.

She also thanked the EE transmission and team for putting extra efforts in improving the overall power supply in the district by working tirelessly in maintaining proper transmission lines for which the public could enjoy the festive season.

On the revenue collection, the team leader thanked EE of Chümoukedima and Dimapur and also the meter readers who had gone extra miles in reading the meters, serving accurate bills to the consumers resulting in improvement of revenue collection. She also thanked the linemen, shift engineer, JE, billing assistance, SDOs and engineers who have worked 24×7 to provide uninterrupted power supply.

Regarding the prepaid meter, she remarked that there might be some reservation but not for any selfish motive but due to the lack of awareness and also failure on their part to create awareness. Dimapur with a cosmopolitan outlook, she was confident that it would not be a problem once proper awareness is created among the public.
