Dimapur, April 7 (EMN): Power department has reminded all consumers never to hand over payment of electricity bill to the meter readers or asked other staff of the department for other purposes such as service connection and departmental activities but route through the office of the sub-divisional offices.
The department has issued a public notice on having learned that some consumers are handing over the money for electricity bill payment to the meter readers. The executive engineer of Dimapur electrical division, Y Akito Sema, stated that the department would not entertain or take any responsibility on account of such matters.
Akito stated that handing over the money for electricity bill payment to the meter readers was illegal as their job is to deliver the electricity bill to the consumers and note down the meter readings for the next bill. He added that meter readers are not authorised personnel to collect money in any form from the consumers.
He has asked the consumers to pay electricity bills at the cash counters in various sub-divisions and specified locations at Diphupar, near Diphupar Police Station and DDSC stadium. For online payment, he has asked to login on its web portal www.dopn.gov.
He has directed the department employees under Dimapur electrical division not to be involved in such cases. He warned that severe action would be initiated without further notice against any employee found or caught involved in such illegal activities.
