DIMAPUR — A programme sponsored by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Dimapur, titled “Promoting sustainable livelihood and nutritional security of women self-help groups (SHGs) through low-cost egg incubators and backyard poultry production,” is currently underway in Akuluto, Zunheboto district, under the Farm Sector Promotion Fund.

According to an update, 2,000 chicks, along with feed, feeders, and drinkers, were distributed on Tuesday to Lumami and Zaphumi women SHGs by Prof. J K Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, at the KVK office in Lumami. Earlier, another 4,000 chicks were distributed to three villages.

Prof. Patnaik, speaking on the occasion, emphasised that his vision as vice chancellor of Nagaland University extends beyond academic development to include the growth of villages and local communities.

He informed the gathering that Nagaland has significant potential for development in the agriculture and allied sectors and can compete not only with other northeastern states but also with mainland states.

He emphasised the empowerment of women SHGs, which play a pivotal role in the development of any society and the economy of the state, and stated that the programme will help them grow both socially and economically.
