POSCO court sentences man to 25 years

DIMAPUR — A special POCSO court in Tuensang sentenced one Namang Chang to 25 years of consecutive imprisonment for the sexual molestation and rape of three minor students. The judgement and order was passed on April 20.

According to an update received here on Monday, Chang, who served as a warden at the Sochum (study centre) in L-Khel, Tuensang, was found guilty of sexually molesting and raping the minors on separate occasions at the centre.

The Special Judge, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Tuensang, Longshithung Ezung also ordered payment of INR 30,000 in addition to 20 years of rigorous imprisonments and five years of simple imprisonment for committing offences under sections 376(3) and 376(2)(d)(f) of the Indian Penal Code, read with sections 5(f) (i)(o) and 9(f) (i)(o) of the POCSO Act.

The period of sentence shall run consecutively, which shall be 25 years in total, the update stated.
