Poll violence at Phuloni as APHLC office attacked
DIPHU — Instances of poll-related violence have been recorded in the Phuloni area of the Karbi Anglong district during campaigning for the second phase of the Lok Sabha election in Assam, with voting scheduled for April 26.
Dhoniram Timung, president of the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) Phuloni Constituency Committee, informed media persons that around midnight, BJP workers allegedly damaged the APHLC office in Phuloni.
He also stated that before attacking the APHLC office, the BJP workers had gone to the residence of Mensing Engti, the organising secretary of the APHLC Phuloni Constituency Committee, to threaten him.
Timung questioned whether MLA Dorsing Ronghang and Executive Member (EM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Kangbura Killing, directed the BJP workers to attack the APHLC office. Timung demanded that appropriate action be taken against those involved.
APHLC spokesperson Angtong Engti Kathar further claimed that on April 23, while travelling to Narlong Ati to attend an election meeting, Dhoni Ronghang, the Phuloni VDC chairman, and others attacked them.
Speaking about the incident, Engti said that after attending a large APHLC meeting in Diphu, he, along with Moniram Terang and Sadrak Terang, had gone to Narlong Ati under the Phuloni MAC constituency to attend another election meeting.
