Phek Government College celebrates annual festival ‘Therinye’

DIMAPUR — The Literary, Cultural and Performing Arts of Phek Government College (PGC) organised the first annual college festival ‘Therinye’ on October 7 and 8.

An update from the college stated that it is a post-harvest festival marking the end of a bountiful year and evoking good health and prosperity. The theme was aimed at marking the beginning of hope, success and prosperity, thereby urging the students to take on every opportunity and reap the fruits of their hard work. 

The festival was inaugurated by the deputy commissioner of Phek, John Tsulise Sangtam, wherein he encouraged the students to work hard and take every opportunity that is provided to them.

While reminding that there is no joy in celebration without success, he called for hard work and dedication.

The college principal, Dr. T Tiakaba Jamir, addressed the students on changing education system, which requires more skill-based and creative thinking. He added that the concept of organising the college fest was to foster the students’ talents and skills and provide a platform to enhance their abilities.

Highlights of the inaugural programme included competitions in solo, quartet, poetry, debate, essay writing and prepared speech.

The special guest of the second day was Col. Chundawat PS, commandant of 38 Assam Rifles, Phek, wherein he praised the Nagas for being true to themselves and honest.

He elucidated on the importance role of youth to bring change and work towards nation building. With academics being crucial, he stated that extra-curricular activities should never be neglected to build oneself.

Activities of the second day included competitions in cosplay, dance, photography, videography, painting and war cry, which were participated by students from Government Higher Secondary Schools in Phek and Chozuba as well as students from Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, Phek.

A street play on mental health was also organised by the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) and District Hospital, Phek.

The programme also witnessed exhibition by Model Career Centre (MCC) and registration of Ayushman Bharat Yojana and internship programme by the Entrepreneur Associates (tEA).

The festival concluded with an extravaganza session featuring various artistes from the district. The event was sponsored by TAFMA, Phek unit, Evening Smashers and National Service Scheme (NSS) of the college.
