PGC holds orientation programme for first-semester students
DIMAPUR —An orientation programme for first-semester undergraduates of Pfutsero Government College (PGC) was held on July 10 at the college auditorium in Pfutsero.
According to a press release, the heads of departments (HoDs) and their representatives at the college explained the activities, scope, and importance of their respective subjects to the students.
The department of Education, represented by assistant professor Vireta Lea, presented how the department focuses on the psychological, pedagogical, and sociological foundations of education.
The Political Science department, represented by assistant professor Zhovi Dukru, highlighted the role of politics in society and how the department provides a close observation of this role.
Dr. Chukapa, head of the department of History, emphasised the vast canvas on which history is written and the importance of history as a subject in competitive exams. Megoseno Mor, head of the department of Sociology, highlighted the research-oriented aspect of sociology.
Grace Semp, assistant professor in the department of English, provided a brief overview of the importance and scope for English graduates, while Dr. Metseilhouthie Mor, assistant professor from the department of Tenyidie, underscored the importance of preserving and understanding one’s own culture.
Chothazo Nienu, assistant professor representing the Economics department, addressed the common perception of economics as boring, unfamiliar, and too mathematical and how students miss out on opportunities by skipping economics.
Earlier, Dr. Tialila Kikon, the principal of the college, encouraged the students to work hard and make the most of their college years.
The programme was chaired by Isaac Shupao. Dr. Thungdemo N Yanthan, IQAC chairperson, highlighted the co-curricular activities of the college. Neichupe Kapfo, vice principal, explained the rules and regulations.
