Pfutsero College organises IPR workshop

DIMAPUR — A one-day workshop on intellectual property rights (IPR) was organised by IQAC and the research committee of Pfutsero Government College, in collaboration with the Patent Information Centre (PIC) of the Nagaland Science and Technology Council (NASTEC), Department of Science and Technology, on July 24 at the college seminar hall.

Kekuneil Ltu, scientist ‘B’, NASTEC, and Gihukali Chishi, technical in charge, NASTEC, were the resource persons for the two sessions, according to a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, Ltu discussed “IPR and its components: overview of IPR” and highlighted the activities and programmes conducted by the PIC Nagaland, which was established in 2011.

He discussed how IPR facilitates patent filing and searches, GI registration, copyrights, trademarks, and new plant varieties. He also mentioned the importance of IPR in academics and institutions.

He further informed that there are currently five IPR cells set up in Nagaland: NU SET Dimapur under the Biotechnology department, Patkai Christian College under the Geology Department, Nagaland University Lumami campus, Kohima Science College Jotsoma, and the Department of Industries and Commerce.

In her session titled “Copyright and its Application,” Chishi deliberated on the different types of copyright, its terms, and where copyrights exist. She further discussed plagiarism, how to avoid it, and where to apply if necessary, as well as the rules set by the UGC against plagiarism in Indian institutes.

The two presentations were followed by an interactive segment, with concluding remarks given by Keneilhounuo Usou, an assistant professor in the department of Sociology. The programme was chaired by Chothazo Neinu, an assistant professor in the department of Economics.
