Only law enforcement agencies can check vehicles on highway, says Phek DC
DIMAPUR —The Deputy Commissioner of Phek has issued an order stating that no individual or organization can take law into their own hands or interfere in the activities of Law enforcement authorities.
While pointing out that recent instances of public checking and stopping of vehicles along the highway within Phek district have resulted in unwanted situations/legal issues and communal disorder, the DC said the highways are meant for smooth movement of persons, vehicles and transportation of goods and commodities.
“Therefore, it is to make clear and remind to all citizens that the Police and Transportation department are the only authorized personnel to carry out patrolling and checking of vehicles on the highway. If at all required, under exceptional circumstances, the public with the permission from the competent authority can assist the Police in carrying out the same,” read the order.
It went on to warn that those “indulging in any mischief along the national highway or any other state highway/passage shall be dealt seriously as per the relevant Sections of the Law”.
