One body recovered from Doyang dam, search for the other continues
WOKHA — The body of one of the youths, who drowned in Doyang dam on Monday, was recovered by the joint team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Wokha and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) underwater drone squad on Wednesday, after an intense search operation.
The lifeless body of Elanthung Ngullie (20) was found at 1.10 pm, two days after he and another person drowned.
“The underwater drone was used to locate the cloth of the victim, which enabled the NDRF and SDRF divers to identify the body under water,” read an update from NSDMA.
However, the other missing person identified as Thungchio Patton (24) is yet to be found. The authorities informed that the team had halted the search operation for the day (May 29) around 4 pm and will resume the search on May 30.
It may be mentioned that a canoe ferrying five people capsized in Doyang dam on Monday around 12:30 pm. Three of the occupants managed to escape but Elanthung and Thungchio unfortunately drowned.
The tragic incident occurred when they were returning to their base after collecting their weekly rations for labourers working on hut construction near the Tourist Resort at Doyang dam.
The SDRF and NDRF personnel, along with DDMA Wokha and local volunteers have been involved in search operation since the incident.
