NWA, CWA condole demises of wrestler Vechopa Puro

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) and Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) have condoled the demise of wrestler Vechopra Puro, son of late Khatu Puro, who passed away on Oct. 7 at Nikos Hospital, Dimapur after a prolonged illness.

In a condolence message, NWA said that Late Puro was the among 20 Chakhesang wrestlers participated in the first Naga wrestling tournament under the nomenclature of Nagaland Wrestling Board on May 20, 1971 at Kohima Local Ground, representing Wrestling Board, Phek sub-division, presently called Chakhesang Wrestling Association.

“Late Puro who was first wrestler to partake in the state level Naga traditional style of wrestling, contributed a lot towards the promotion of wrestling. He was also a retired teacher and was rendering selfless services to the youngster by imparting education in different forms and thus the NWA and the entire wrestling fraternity indebted to him for his yeomen service rendered upon,” the NWA message read.

Meanwhile, in a separate condolence message, the CWA also fondly remembered late Puro’s contributions and sacrifices towards Naga traditional wrestling.

The association shared the “pain together with the family members at this hour of grief and sorrow,” the message read.
