NU observes ‘Anti-Ragging Week’ at Lumami campus
DIMAPUR — As part of the ‘Anti-Ragging Week,’ Nagaland University (NU), Lumami campus in Zunheboto district, organised a programme at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall on Friday with vice chancellor of NU, Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, as the chief guest on theme “Unite against ragging.”
In his address, Prof. Patnaik highlighted the university’s exceptional track record, noting with pride that no cases of ragging have been reported since the institution’s establishment, an update from NU stated.
Patnaik said that the achievement underscored Nagaland University’s steadfast commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all its students.
The programme featured insightful contributions from several key figures.
Prof. Wangshimenla, dean of student welfare and chairman of the university’s anti-ragging committee, offered an overview of the week’s activities.
Two thought-provoking lectures on anti-ragging were delivered by Dr. Kuldeep Singh Panwar, associate professor of Law, and Dr. Ramita Sougrakpam, assistant professor of Zoology.
The programme began with a welcome address delivered by Dr. Gyati Yam, assistant professor of Forestry.
Other activities of the week-long programme included competitions aimed at promoting awareness and engagement and the winners were announced by Dr. Pitheli K Jimo, assistant professor of Sociology.
“The successful execution of this programme highlights Nagaland University’s ongoing dedication to fostering an inclusive and respectful campus environment, reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance on ragging,” it stated.
Observes National Librarianship Week
As part of National Librarianship Week, the Nagaland University’s Central Library hosted two online sessions on August 13 and 14 to highlight digital resources.
On August 13, a session on “Enhancing the value of the experience with project MUSE-A user awareness Session” was held with 48 participants from Social Sciences and Humanities.
Mhonbemo Ngullie, deputy librarian, opened the session, followed by Dr. Nikita Wanjari from Balani InfoTech Pvt. Ltd., who provided a detailed overview of Project MUSE’s features.
Dr. Wanjari explained the benefits such as account creation, citation generation, and search functionalities, while Ochentsungba Ozukum discussed remote access capabilities offered by Nagaland University, emphasising accessibility.
On August 14, a session on “Leveraging the usage of WestLaw” in collaboration with Thomson Reuters, saw a participation of 36 students from the Law department.
Dr. Chanlang Ki Bareh, assistant librarian, and Dr. Kuldeep Singh Panwar, HOD of Law, said the opening remarks, while Lipika Malhan from Thomson Reuters demonstrated how to search legal documents on WestLaw and highlighted features like judgment identification and current news sections.
Dr. Bareh also discussed alternative open access resources and Ozukum showcased remote access options.
Dr. Sentikumla concluded the session with final remarks on enhancing legal research skills.
