DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) has decided to hold the 3rd quarterly National Lok Adalat (People’s Courts) in all the district headquarters on September 14.
An update from NSLSA informed that 11 Lok Adalat benches by the district legal services authority (DLSA) would be set-up in all the districts.
It mentioned that Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms and a forum where disputes/ cases pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled/ compromised amicably. It added that Lok Adalats have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

Under the said Act, the award (decision) made by the Lok Adalats is deemed to be a decree of a civil court and is final and binding on all parties and no appeal against such an award lies before any court of law, it stated adding there is no court fee payable when a matter is filed in a Lok Adalat.
It informed that a total of 223 cases out of 463 cases at pre litigation and pending stage were settled and disposed off amounting to INR 31744813 during the 2nd quarter of the National Lok Adalat held on May 11, 2024.
The cases disposed off pertained to civil cases including bank recovery, telephone bills, MACT cases among others.
