NSDMA conducts training on urban disaster risk management

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) under Home department, in collaboration with 9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency (AC), organised a two-day capacity-building programme on urban disaster risk management on March 7 and 8 at the conference hall of Kohima Cathedral.

The objective of the training was to enable the representatives of the ward members under Kohima municipality to develop an urban disaster risk management plan/ ward disaster management plan. The ward disaster management plan was to build towards urban resilient, which is an imperative parameter towards urban sustainable development, stated an update from NSDMA.

It stated that MLA of Kohima Town AC, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, attended the training as the special guest.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr. Keviseto Kintso, while an invocation prayer was said by Fr. Alex Tep, and a brief introduction on disaster management was delivered by Johnny Ruangmei, joint CEO of NSDMA. A song was presented by Diethozo Medeo, which was followed by speech by the special.

In the first session, Khrolou Koza Lohe, NSMDA assistant manager of training and education, presented an overview of disaster management, which was followed by a demonstration on first aid by the members of Indian Red Cross Society.

The second day programme began with a brief recapitulation by Yanger Temjen, which was followed by a presentation on city disaster management plan (CDMP) by Khrolou Lohe.

The session concluded with a brief introduction to fire safety by Fire and Emergency Services led by sub-inspector, Thejasetuo Keditsu.

Report stated that a total of 200 participants including 45 students of class 9 from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, 15 SDRF jawans from the HG, CD&SDRF and volunteers attended the training.
