No illegal immigrants identified in Nagaland; more than 31000 ILPs issued this year, says Patton
KOHIMA — Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, Y Patton, who is also in-charge of Home, on Monday said that no illegal immigrants have been identified, arrested or deported, and that the state does not have a separate detention and deporting policy.
He was replying to a starred question raised by Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu, who sought information on the Inner Line Permit (ILP) registration and illegal immigrant status in Nagaland, during the ongoing second session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA).
The deputy CM said that the state is following the guidelines and directives of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for identification and deportation of illegal immigrants.
‘In order to ensure that only the citizens of the country get ILP, the applicants for the travel document are required to submit complete details about themselves including proper identify and address proof documents. The issuing authorities issue the ILPs only after being fully satisfied with the credentials of the applicants,’ he added.
As a measure to check and prevent issuance of ILP to illegal immigrants, it is provided in the ‘Notification concerning the ILP regime’ that the permit application from Kamriganj, Halikandi, Dima Hasao and Karvi Anglong districts of Assam shall be issued only after the documents from these districts are verified by the Inspector General of Police (INT), Nagaland, said Patton.
The district administration and police also carry out regular checking for detection of any foreigners violating the provisions under Section 3(2)(e) and 3(2)(c) of the Foreigners Act, 1946 and under section 5 of the Passport (entry into India) Act, 1920, and action is taken against the defaulter as per the provisions of law, it was informed.
The deputy CM also informed that the state has issued a total of 31,268 ILPs this year, since January 1, 2023. This included 6899 new ILPs, 13,782 renewed and 10,587 to tourists.
