NIAPA Northeast Open TT tourney final showdown today

DIMAPUR — The semi-final and final matches of the 3rd NIAPA Northeast Open TT tourney are set to take place on Monday at NIAPA mini stadium in Chümoukedima.

Top seeds from Northeast India have maintained their strong performance on the third day of the championship, although Nagaland players faced challenges in the singles for both men’s and women’s categories. They, however, managed to secure their positions in the doubles and mixed doubles categories.

In the first semi-final match, Mizoram’s Jeho Himnakulhpuingheta will face R Lalthangsangi, while Alberto Lalremruata will take on Assam player Agniv Bhaskar Gohain in the semis. Nagaland champ Ricky Hinglak lost his opening match against Assam player Bhaskar Jyoti Sarmah in a 3-0 set defeat.

For the men’s doubles semi-finals, Lalremruata and Vicky Kumar Das will face Jeho and Alberto, and Suranjit and Ricky will compete against Imomcha and Seyievilie. National games bronze medalist duo Shankab and Agniv Bhaskar won two matches but had to pull off their semi-final match owing to Shankab’s injury. Imomcha and Seyievilie will replace the duo to progress into the semi-final rounds in their group with luck.

As per an update, in the women’s singles semi-finals matches, Lalthangsangi Sailo will play against Akhankhya, while Assam Kritika will face Meghalaya’s Tanushree Das Gupta. Nagaland champ Avitoli Yepthomi suffered a 0-3 loss against Tanushree in the first match.

In the women’s doubles, Tanushree and Akuonuo will play against Assam duo Kritika and Akhankhya in the semis, while Lalthangsangi and Lalmuanawn will face Thejavinuo and Avitoli in the second semi-final match.

In the mixed doubles, Lalthangsangi and Jeho will compete against R Lalthangsanga and Akuonuo in the first semi-final match, while Suranjit and Tanushree will take on Kritika and Diganto in the second semi-final match.

The closing ceremony for the championship is scheduled for 3 pm.
