NHP organises NQAS knowledge exchange programme

Dimapur, Oct. 2 (EMN): Nagaland Health Project (NHP) conducted a knowledge exchange programme on National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) for aspiring health units from Peren, Mon and Dimapur districts at Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Burma Camp in Dimapur on September 30.

An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Dimapur, stated that NQAS certification is the highest national quality certification in India, which is awarded to government health facilities that provides quality healthcare services. It mentioned that UPHC Burma Camp and UPHC Duncan Bosti were among the health units in India which have achieved NQAS certification in July 2022.

In his opening remarks, the CMO of Dimapur, Dr. I Moatemjen, acknowledged the sincere and dedicated efforts put in by the doctors and staff of both the UPHC and congratulated them for achieving NQAS which was a rare feat for many. He mentioned that the achievement of UPHC Duncan and Burma Camp could also be achieved by other health facilities and encouraged the participants to learn from their experiences.

The joint director of Health department, Dr. Lhouvizotuo Belho, informed that the knowledge exchange programme was organised to bring together the health workers of aspirant health Units to benefit from the knowledge and experience gained by the NQAS certified health units. He stated that the programme would facilitate exchange of ideas, expertise, knowledge and experience which would be beneficial for all the participants as well as the host health unit.

The medical officer of UPHC Burma Camp, Dr. Chamzai Newmai, and the consultant of national urban health mission, Dimapur, Toshinaro, while presenting their journeys to NQAS certification, shared the challenges they faced along the way. Toshinaro stated that one of the crucial steps in preparing for the certification was to conduct gap analysis of the health unit to find out the areas of concern and to work on them using the PICK (Possible Implement Kill/Kickout Challenge) Chart.

Dr. Chamzai has credited team work, dedication and coordination among staff as the key to achieving NQAS certification.

Chairing the programme, the deputy CMO of Dimapur, Dr. Antoly Suu, remarked that community participation plays an important role in providing quality services to the public and also in achieving NQAS certification.

A presentation on community perspective was presented by Pennathung Lotha, chairman of HCMC Duncan Bosti, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Menguzenuo Sachu, NHP consultant.
